A Few Things to Know Before Visiting Rural Colombia

I know there are many guidebooks on this, but I want to share my tips and tricks from someone who lives in a small town.

Most people who visit Colombia usually stick to the well-known destination, the popular places among tourists, and what we all know as ¨the beaten path¨.

While researching this post, I read a listicle that told visitors of Colombia to ¨stay on the beaten path¨. I understand where they are coming from, as Colombia does have a violent history, and locals will also tell you to be careful.

They lived through it, and it still haunts them, which is understandable. Yet I think the beaten path has become so worn that violence lurks on that path now more than the road less traveled.
