The Black Sea, and the tower that can see you

It is surrounded by Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, and Georgia — even rumors that an ancient civilization lies beneath it and a river.

The coast of Anaklia is about an hour’s journey on the Mashuka (Georgian Bus) from where I am staying in Zugdidi. A small stopover town where I have spent too much time wandering the markets, petting the street dogs, and trying to decide on my next destination.

As always, I will decide at the last minute.

Three of us travelers decided to head to the infamous abandoned and forgotten black sea resort, Anaklia. We had heard that it was interesting, so why not.

After searching for the right bus, which took about 30 minutes of Georgians directing and redirecting us, we eventually found it, hidden in the corner of a parking lot that was already full of people waiting to go to their destination.
