Boundaries were a foreign concept until someone told me they admired mine.

I almost fell on the floor.

Setting boundaries has always been a struggle for me. I have always been a ¨ ok, it’s fine, no problem, sure¨ kind of person. I’m not too fond of confrontation, and it is sometimes easier to be easygoing than to cause a stir.

Yet when I agree to something I do not want to do, it causes unrest and inner turmoil inside of me, which is more damaging than maybe ruffling someone else’s feathers briefly.

Instead, I let it ruminate and it makes me wonder, why didn’t I just set a boundary and stick with it?

People say no and stand up for themselves all the time. I used to envy this quality in so many, I never imagined one day I would embrace it.

Well, somewhere between last year and the other day, I learned to set boundaries, and I didn’t even notice until someone pointed it out.

I asked the person I work with what time our afternoon shift ends, as I was told 4–6, and she confirmed yes. I like time and deadlines. So it was approximately 1805, and my workday was over.
