Consistency is the key to motivation in my opinion, of course

I have officially been writing full-time on Medium for a year. Last October, I made a deal to publish every day. That was the only rule I had.

I had no idea where to start or what to write about, but I started. I set a goal, and that was it. I had no idea what anyone wanted to read; honestly, I still don’t.

Over the summer, my writing was not daily, and I felt like a fish floundering in the water. Writing has been my one consistent thing for a year; when I slowed, I lost my drive, motivation, routine, and consistency.

This month I have renewed my vow to write daily. I have surpassed this goal and write 2–3 times daily. My motivation to write is back, and my drive has increased, but why?

I do not think it is the motivation; it is routine and consistency. If you set your mind to do something, do it, don’t worry about it if it’s any good, and improve as time goes on.
