When I decided to come to Colombia three years ago, I had no idea what kind of food was here.

I knew that I wanted to travel to South America, and Colombia was a great starting point. I knew that there would be coffee and empanadas; other than that, I was going in blind.

I don’t even remember searching the cuisine; I am not a picky eater and love to eat. I also heard they ate a lot of plantains, and plantains are one of my favorite foods.

When I told people I was coming to Colombia, everyone told me, don’t expect much when it comes to food. I never listen to people who say this since I am a pretty good eater and will always find something I like.

There are only one or two foods that I do not like, one is olives, and the other is anchovies.

So I figured I would be just fine as long as they do not serve me a platter of anchovies and olives. I ended up liking the food here a lot. It is easy, home cooking most places you go.

Some on the list are main dishes, some are street foods, and some are foods we eat in the house.
