Getting Into Cars With Strangers — My Wildest Travel Story
“Strangers are just friends I haven’t met yet,”-Will Rogers
As I was sitting here trying to think of my wildest travel story to write and submit, I couldn’t think of a specific “wild travel story”.
Yet I can think of things I have done and my friends look at me and say, “are you crazy.” Which happens so often that I have started to normalize what I consider wild.
So I have chosen an incident that repeatedly occurs to me, that now I do not even blink an eye at it, yet if I was looking at this sequence of events as an outsider, I might think ok, you are somewhat insane.
I have been volunteering worldwide through a website called Workaway. What you do, is pay the 35 USD for a year and create a profile.
Once you start getting volunteer gigs, you will slowly begin to get rated, and you will also be able to review the host. If you have a 5-star rating, you will get the “better” gigs.
However, when you start, you are turned down a lot. I heard this happened, so instead of looking for the gigs with 5-star ratings, I looked for new hosts, and I would be their first guest.
