How A Trip Into Town Is Always An Adventure In Rural Colombia

Sometimes the dog is on with us! That is a real adventure.

Wednesdays, we go into town and do the weekly-ish shopping. We always need something; I go through fruit and vegetables like they are going out of style.

One reason I am obsessed with growing a garden. It is 20 minutes on the motorcycle into town, and we always have so much to bring back. When I don’t go, my boyfriend is always buying me papaya’s, bananas, and whatever else he finds for me.

Sometimes when we ride into town, I am in my head, thinking about who knows what. My head can be a very chaotic place to be sometimes. Today I was more present for some reason.

I realized that if you had asked me four years ago if my primary mode of transport would be a motorcycle, I would have looked at you like you had just lost your mind. I would then remind you that I am an ICU nurse, and my specialty has been Neuro — Trauma for as long as I can remember.

I have taken care of so many motorcycle accidents. Today I was thinking that, and then I thought, eh, it’s the life I only have one to live. I wear a helmet, and the roads are so curvy that we are not going that fast.
