I have read a lot of stories on difficulties on off grid in the US as well. I also looked into it, and it was a lot of jumping through hoops, but do able. Here in Colombia it would def be much easier.. even if i am connected to the grid, i could prob just get solar, and disconnect, its funny how unconnected i feel just being in the countryside..
