Learning Spanish As An Adult, I Have Never Felt More Stupid In My Life

I should say an adult in her 40’s, am I too old to learn more?

I live in Colombia, where the Spanish language is so beautifully spoken. With the rolling of the R’s, the melodic tone.

Where I live they speak with a neutral accent, or so I have been told. Not too fast, not too slow, not too sing-songy! Just right.

The only thing I know is that Chilians use too much slang. Argentinians especially in Buenos Aires, say “Playa” as “Plasha”.

The Spanish speakers in Spain sound like they have a lisp when they say a Z or S. I think.

Maybe I am biased and have been here a long time. I feel that they speak more clearly and do not use too much slang.

Unless they are drunk with their friends and then it goes out the window for my understanding.

Yet, I can pick up on the little things, but when I sit down to study or take a class:

It all goes out the window. Almost like I have never heard one word of Spanish in my entire life.
