Life On The Farm

Since I moved to the finca, I have been repairing the fence. It is half finished, and we have started on the second phase — a new fence.

It will run along the property line. Next to the property line is a mini ravine with a small river. As I picked coffee, I noticed the dogs could jump across the ravine to the neighbor’s yard.

At first, you might not think that is problematic, or you immediately thought it was. Someone else’s dogs on your property can be problematic if they have chickens and your dog is a chicken killer, as mine is.

The other problem is that the neighbor has no fence along the road. So the dogs hop over the hole, enter the neighbor’s property, and end up in the road, and my husky/malamute is a runner.

He will not run away and never come home, but he will run away for hours and return when it’s time to eat. He is not allowed to do that, so up the fence goes.

However, we only finished it halfway today. We will finish next week, as the dogs are not that motivated to run away; they mostly don’t leave my side, especially when it is hot, like today when they chill on the porch and Baki sits in the river.

We worked until lunchtime, the perfect time to end our day as the dark storm clouds…
