There is No Better Feeling Than Being Home

As the plane descended, I looked out the window and saw mountains for miles.

As the wheels touched down, I knew I was home. It’s a strange feeling when your adopted country feels more like home than the one you were born in. However, since arriving in Colombia in 2018, I have always felt a warm, gentle hug as I disembarked.

Have you ever felt like you were born in the wrong place?

I am not saying I was born in the wrong place because being born in the US has allowed me to live as I do now. Yet I never felt it was my forever home, and felt like an outsider there.

Even on my most recent trip, I felt misunderstood, not only by the people but also by what beats beneath the surface.

It is a feeling I can’t explain, and you can not understand unless it has happened to you. Some feel at home in their home country, which is beautiful, but that was not my experience.
