We always say, “wow, life is flying right by,” but is it, or is that just how it is perceived. And why, when we think of the past, the memories immediately brought right back to like it was yesterday?

How can life fly by so fast, yet in an instant, you are back in the past, and a simple thing such as music can put you right there the same age, the same smells, feeling like you never left?

I always wonder how that is possible?

When I worked in the hospital, even my patients with dementia could remember when they met their husbands. They might not know what day or year it is, but they remember what their husband said to them on their wedding day, the moment they knew he was “the one” or “the spark,” and why they fell in love.

Our mind holds so many things, but we forget until we get that one thing. It always makes me wonder how does our brain does that?

Sometimes I can’t remember what I had for breakfast last Friday. Still, if you put on a song that transports me back to 1998 high school dance — Stairway To Heaven, I will instantly tell you I was wearing a striped t-shirt too big, with pants too big and my hair long and messy parted down the middle — standing in…
