What I Have Caught Myself Saying Like Normal Since Moving To Rural Colombia

Until today, I didn’t realize how well I have adapted to Colombian country living.

Recently I started thinking about what I say. I have a tendency to just talk and say things, then my boyfriend, who speaks very little English, looks at me puzzled.

Then I think, what did I say, and it’s usually quite bizarre. That is just me. I have been accused of speaking before I think. Yet since learning a new language, I really started to think about what I actually say now. Kinda.

A few things that have started to come out of my mouth are things I would never imagine. I started thinking about this today when I was asking my boyfriend a question.

Then I thought, what world am I living in? This can’t be my life.

I asked, Where is the Machete? ¿Dónde está el machete?

This is an important question when trying to trim plantain trees and dig up the ground to replant some herbs. So this got me to thinking, what other phrases was I saying now that used to be so bizarre to me.

On a side note, most people you see in the countryside carry a big machete and…
