Why Do We Love Cheesy Romantic Movies During The Holidays?

I have spent the past 3 days addicted to my Netflix account in true holiday fashion. I actually ordered Netflix just for the holidays. I do not watch much television; I read more than watch anything except holidays.
Why you may be asking. It was always a tradition that my sisters watched cheesy romantic Christmas movies. The type of hot buff man who goes to the small-town middle of nowhere finds the one girl in town. Everyone wonders, “why is she still single” (oh do I have so many thoughts on this).
Girls meet boys, thinks the boy is a jerkface, eventually sees his charm, and they fall in love. Sometimes this boy is rich, a prince owns a castle, or anything completely unrealistic.
Don’t get me wrong, I think half of these movies are so stupid, and I think the plot of “why is she still single” is the most annoying question, which I will cover in another article. I find myself getting sucked into these always happy ending stories.
I also am very aware that I am not alone in this. All my siblings have watched them, and since they keep making them, we are not alone. So why do we find ourselves watching these oh-so-predictably stupid holiday movies? Obsessively!
