You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way. —Walter Hagen

Two years ago, I volunteered at a hostel; I worked with a couple from Argentina. The girl and I were both assigned the same tasks.

My volunteer gig was cleaning the hostel. I hate cleaning, so I was not particularly thrilled to get given, yet that was my job, I will prevail. And I will do it fast and thoroughly.

We each got five rooms; some were dorms, some bigger, some smaller. We had 5 hours. We worked from 8–1.

Break for a selfie!

Before she started, I cleaned all the rooms by myself in these 5 hours. So getting my work cut in half, I knew that I would get it done in 2.5 hours. Yet I decided to slow down, mainly because if I finished early, would I have to help her?
